Advertising on the internet can be a pretty hit or miss affair. I’ve tried quite a few types of advertising and below are the ones that I’ve found to be value for money. (Keep coming back, I’ll be adding more as we go along!) Whatever you choose though, don’t forget to track your adverts, wherever you put them. You’d be amazed at the difference a subject line can make to whether your email gets opened or not or whether your classified link is clicked, so you need to know which subject lines make people open their emails! I recommend Click Tracker. This is a script which can be easily installed on your web server and which has a one time cost of less than $20. That has to be better than paying a similar monthly fee!!
Email Marketing
There is a lot of debate about the effectiveness of email marketing. Personally, I haven’t found it very useful. You need to be very very careful not to contravene the laws against SPAM, if you are a genuine marketer. There is so much SPAM out there that many people filter their incoming mail quite fiercely or they forget that they signed up to receive emails from an individual or organisation so your email campaign may well be wasted. If you are going to use email marketing, get a professional autoresponder or an email list manager, both of which will ensure that people have opted in to receive your mail. I recommend AWeber where you can create HTML emails, upload a list of opt in email addresses and start communicating. This is cheap and highly effective – Free Trial.
Ezine Advertising
Advertising in Ezines takes advantage of someone else’s opt-in list. The publisher already has a relationship with his or her list so it’s more likely that your ad will be read.
You can pay to advertise or search the internet for Ezines which will “swap” advertising with you if you have your own newsletter. Try to find Ezines which have been established for a while and which publish the number of subscribers they have.
Exchange Links
If you have your own web page, contact other webmasters and ask if they’d like to swap links with you. Choose websites which aren’t in direct competition to you. You can add a links page to your website, like the one I have.
