I see lots of affiliate marketers that are missing the boat. Are you one of them?

Now I run an affiliate program and probably shouldn't even write this article. After all it is to my advantage as a product owner to let you keep making this simple mistake. But my conscience would bother me so I guess I will finish this article.

First understand that affiliate marketing can be a great way to build a business done right. Unfortunately, most new marketers don't understand the right way, they want the easy way.
Let me tell you that the easy way works to the owner of the products advantage. You need to capture your customer first.

Let's take a quick look at what happens if you don't take the time to set up a sales process and just send your potential customer to an affiliate page.

You end up either making a sale or the person leaves and does nothing.

We will look at what happens if you actually make the sale which is your best case first. You get paid a commission which is good but the product owner gets a customer with the email address and contact information. Who gets to follow up with that person? It's sure not you.

In the worst case scenario - your potential sale leaves the affiliate site without purchasing - it is even worse. If the product owner is doing what they should be they made an attempt to gather your prospects contact information through a squeeze page of some type.

Again, the owner benefits from your traffic not you.

Now, if you had taken the time to set up a sales process and instead of advertising the affiliate site you advertised YOUR squeeze page it is much different. The person that bought was interested in that item so you probably could have gotten them to sign up to your special report on that topic.

You could still send them there AFTER you had gathered the follow up information. You still get the sale but you now have the contact too.

The person that left without buying may have had enough interest to sign up for your special report. It is entirely possible and even probable that after reading your report and creating the desire for the product that person will go back and buy the product.

If they don't there just may be something else you recommend (note you are no longer a peddler after your special report but a trusted source) that they will need and buy.

Please take the time to set up your full sales process so you benefit. If not as a product owner I thank you for building my list.
